Your Chihuahua's Life: Your Complete Guide to Raising Your Pet from Puppy to Companion
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (06 October, 1999)
Author: Kim Campbell Thornton
Average review score:

Buy The Chihuahua Handbook by Caroline Coile Instead
This book provides an adequate level of information about chihuahuas, but if you're really looking for a book that will answer ALL of your questions, buy _The Chihuahua Handbook_ by Dr. Caroline Coile instead. It's more well written than this book, and it provides greater detail in a wide variety of subjects, and includes more up-to-date information on subjects such as diet, breeding, training, etc.,. Kim Thornton's _Your Chihuahua's Life_ treats the chihuahua like it's just a smaller version of any other dog, and any chihuahua owner knows that's just not true. Do yourself a favor, and buy the other book.

Your Chihuahua's Life by Kim Campbell Thornton
This book is AWESOME! It has everything you need to know about the chihuahua breed and is right on the money with everything it says. If you are a first time chihuahua owner or are thinking about one, you MUST read this wonderful book.

Everything you you ever wanted to know about Chihuahuas
I previously bought Chihuahuas-A Complete Owner's Manual by Barron's
and found it very helpful and specific. But now that I read Your
Chihuahua's Life I feel the Owner's Manual kind of sparse. I love
both books. The Owner's Manual has more pictures and a glossier
appearance, but the Complete Guide by Kim Thornton is definitely the
most comprehensive book on Chihuahuas I have seen so far. Being a
first time Chihuahua owner, I was astounded how accurately she
described and predicted the little quirks and behavior oddities of
these little guys. Unlike most breed books this book is clearly a
breed specific book. I found many other books to explain the breed
standard and history and then be almost identical in every other
aspect (training, health care, etc). This book is different. Many
things of specific importance to Chis (and no other breed) are
included in each of the very comprehensive chapters like Training,
etc. A big plus in this book for prospective owners is that she
describes the personality so accurately and realisticly. Most other
breed books will just describe their featured breed in the best
light. After reading this book you will know, if a Chihuahua is the
right dog for you, what to watch out for, and how to properly take
care of these little guys. My suggestion is buy Barron's Pet Owner's
Manual for the pictures and an introduction to the breed...and get Thornton's book for an indepth study.

Art and Science of Professional Makeup (Cat. No. 7220)
Published in Hardcover by Milady Publishing Co. (July, 1995)
Author: Stan Campbell Place
Average review score:

Makeup Artists need this book
This is a great book for makeup artists, probably not great for the makeup junkie consumer. I learned more in this book then I have in all of the makeup classes I have taken over the years. It is a study book more then a read for fun book, every artist needs to read it.

Good reference material.
Pretty thorough coverage of modern makeup. It doesn't call out the new Hollywood looks in particular, the underlying technique is all there.

Bear's Day
Published in Hardcover by Viking Childrens Books (June, 2000)
Author: Lisa Campbell Ernst

We had to buy it......
I took this book out of the library.... over and over and over again for my 16 month old - so I had to buy it! She especially loves the last two pages right before she goes to bed - we have to read those pages over and over and over..... ! It is a very sweet book and one of my daughter's favorites.

Very sweet
This is a very sweet book, with simple illustrations and short, easy rhymes. (For example, "books to read" "stringing beads.") It's a great book for the end of the day because it's got a nice, quiet feel to it. Although they're virtually identical, I prefer Cat's Play, perhaps because we own a cat and my baby is crazy for him.

The Bfi Companion to Horror
Published in Hardcover by Continuum (January, 1997)
Authors: Kim Newman, British Film Institute, and Ramsey Campbell
Average review score:

Great Book!
Marvellously comprehensive, with quite a diverse range of topics relating to horror and people who are associated with the genre, and other such entries.
A pretty handy guide for horror film buffs, as this is the major category it covers (couldn't expect more from a "BFI" (British Film Institute) Companion though, could you? :-) ).
On the downside, some of the entries can be a little overcrowded with film titles, but good for the completist, i guess.
I'd love to see further editions, with more up-to-date info (it WAS printed in '96, afterall.)
Defintately a recommended buy.

valuable reference book
As a writer, I have found Newman's reference book helpful. It includes subjects not addressed elsewhere and does a good job of explaining subjects that have been widely covered.

Biochemistry
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (October, 1999)
Author: Campbell
Average review score:

A good introduction
I used this text in our 300-level undergrad biochemistry course. It was written quite simply, and most of the diagrams were good (although the professor had to correct many mistakes he had found). It is great for an introductory book, but it stinks for a student intending to pursue graduate study in the subject. I would recommend Stryer's biochem book for a more in-depth look at the topic.

Good, but carbohydrates a mess
It's a good one semester-type of book. It is concise and clear at the same time. I just saw a number of mistakes with carbohydrates, esp. disaccharides, e.g. Fig 12.12 on p.435, problem 14.b on p.452 etc. Please Mary, do not trust your TA-s for these things because you cause a lot of confusion among us, the stupid undergrads!

Civil War Ladies: Fashions and Needle-Arts of the Early 1860's
Published in Paperback by R. L. Shep Publications (October, 1989)
Authors: R. L. Shep and Mark Self-Instructor in the Art of Hair Work, Dressing Hair Campbell
Average review score:

Excellent Primary Source
Reprints from Peterson's Magazine from 1861 (beginning of Civil War) and 1864 (end). This book omits the recipes and literature, but includes hair styles, children's and women's fashion with some patterns.

The limitations of the book are due to the limitations of the source material itself -- art work is pen-and-ink drawings, and the printing is small and sometimes hard to follow. But that's part of dealing with a primary source.

Good as a companion to more detailed books about reenactments and costume history (authors such Janet Arnold, Jean Hunnisett, Nancy Bradfield, the Cunningtons, and Norah Waugh). Probably wouldn't stand alone or be that good for a beginner since it would need some "interpretation" for the modern reader; the introduction to the book covers the limitations and would be good to review before delving into the work itself.

I found the close-ups of the hair styles and gowns to be helpful, but again, the novice might be asking, "Where do I go from here?"

Worth the wait!
This is a wonderful compilation of material from Peterson's magazine & Self-Instructor in the Art of Hair Work. There are embroidery patterns, lots of clothing patterns for women & children (to be enlarged), black & white fashion plates, sheet music, crochet patterns & knitting patterns (somewhat difficult to translate, but great ideas to get you started), craft instructions for pin cushions, purses, fashion accessories, & househould items, hair styling pictures & how-to's, and much more! This book is a great source for costumers, reenactors, and people who just enjoy the era. Even if it's special order, it is certainly worth the wait.

Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle : A Guide for Collectors & Anglers
Published in Paperback by The Lyons Press (July, 2002)
Author: A.J. Campbell
Average review score:

Entertaining and useful book with some limitations
While the book generally does an outstanding job of deftly balancing good resarch and an entertaining style, it stumbles badly when west of the Mississippi. What happened to (at the least) Winston, or Powell? Neither one is in the index, and I could not find them in the text. The eastern U.S. bias is quite clear.

A Real Treasure for any Fly Fisherman or Collector of Tackle
This is by far the best book that I have read and read and re-read on fly fishing tackle. The history of early bamboo fly rod makers is extraordinary, very informative and extremely interesting. If you are interested in fly fishing rods and reels, this book is well worth the price. This is a large book with lots of information on rods, reels, collecting, tackle manufacturing, tackle value, etc. etc. the list goes on. You won't be disappointed!

The Fifth Cylinder: Playing God Isn't for the Weak
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (December, 2000)
Author: Ian Michael Campbell
Average review score:

Exceptional!!
The first few chapters seem rather heavy as Ian provides the details and background. But once the action starts it is afterburner all the way. The Fifth Cylinder leaves you both exhilirated and horrified at Ian's premise!
The book travels like a runaway express train from one shattering climax to the next!!
Considering the news headlines in the past few months, we can only hope that The Fifth Cylinder never becomes reality!
Here's your next movie Arnold Schwarzenegger!!
You would be phenomenal as Immannuel Thor!!

Page Burner!
Ian Campbell begins with three unrelated incidents and then inexorably ties them together and draws you into the terrifying story. I found the pace started slowly but page by page it increased until during the last half of the book I could not turn the pages fast enough! Ian gets you seeing the action roaring past your eyes like an express train. The characters stand lifelike in this quest for eternal youth and its horrifying consequences. One can feel oneself drawn with the characters to the very brink of apoaclypse, looking down over the edge into the abyss beyond. Then, just when you think you have stopped sliding, Ian pushes you again! I loved his ability to draw different events, characters and scenarios into one cataclysmic climax! Good solid heart-stopping action and suspense!

Gmdss: Understanding the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System: The New Marine Radio Communications Systems
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks Intl (Short Disc) (May, 2003)
Author: John Campbell
Average review score:

GMDSS Reference Book
Excellent reference book for GMDSS system. Also used as a text book at the California Maritime Academy (for those of you wondering if this is the book he wants you to get).

Great General Reference on Subject
This is about the best general reference out there on the subject of GMDSS. The only drawback to the text is that it is SOMEWHAT dated, but that is because it is a text on electronics, and became dated on it's way to the printers. Still, if you need info on GMDSS, this is where to go. It is currently used as a textbook for the GMDSS course at Great Lakes Maritime academy.

Human Oddities
Published in Paperback by Citadel Pr (October, 1987)
Authors: Martin Monestier and Robert Campbell
Average review score:

Diferent, something you don't see every day.
I gave the book four stars for it's uniqueness. The author was simpathetic to the subjects but still conveyed the shocking nature of thier lot in life.

Loved it!
People with oddities or deformities are often overlooked. This book lets the viewer learn about the kinds of people we would be afraid to look at. He treats them as special and unique. Some of the pictures were hard to believe.
